The cute new addition to your family home could very well have fleas, though this may be hard to believe. Unfortunately, it’s not unheard of for a very young kitten to have fleas; it all very much depends upon the environment in which it lived before you brought it to live with you. For example, if the mother cat had fleas, then there’s a huge possibility that all the kittens will have fleas. If there was another pet in the home such as another cat, or dog, then again, there’s a possibility that even though the mother cat wasn’t allowed out while she was nursing her kittens, fleas were brought in by the other pets. Clthes and feet are ways in which humans frequently bring fleas in to the home.
One of the first things you should have in your home is a flea comb. Run a flea comb through your kitten's fur once it's home, in somewhere like a bathroom. Look carefully behing the ears and at the base of the tail as these are particular haunts for fleas. One is all that is required to ascertain that this issue needs addessing.
In your kitty grooming box, you should have picked up something that will both kill off the fleas, and be safe for a newborn kitten.Familiarise yourself with the product and have it ready for when you introduce your kitten, incase you spot a flea. Your kitten will aready feel nervous and insecure at this moment, so try not to startle it as much as possible. If possible try and so this on your own ensuring that other pets and members of the family are in the room in order to keep this as stress free as possible. Once he’s clean, allow him to meet the rest of the family, but don’t allow him back into the cat carrier, or on to any bedding/toys that had contact with him before you did the flea treatment. It is vitally important that it is throughly cleaned before returned to the cat.
More often than not your kitten will arrive flealess, though by preparing for the worse you can avoid a potentially big job.
